    In this role, Paul was primarily responsible for the development of a custom plugins providing integrations with third party services for an existing WordPress site. He was also responsible for development of new sites using WordPress and React and the development of Lightening Web Components in Salesforce.

    Responsibilities

    • WordPress Integrations
      Developed WordPress Plugins to provide integrations with various third-party services and APIs including Algolia Search, Acalog Catalog Management and SMS Magic.

      Created new sites using WordPress or React using provided designs and business rules

      Developed new and existing components for use within a Salesforce implemenation

      Participated in an Agile Scrum workflow, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives

    In this role, Paul was tasked primarily with developing and maintaining an existing ColdFusion application. Updates include functional updates within ColdFusion, style updates via HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and management of the Lucee, the ColdFusion server. He also implemented several one-off updates for other WordPress sites.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop ColdFusion Application
      This application was developed to support Land Surveyors, including assignments, scheduling, and communication.
    • Maintain Lucee Server
      Monitored logs and performance to ensure adequate uptime and performance.
    • WordPress Development
      Provided several one-off updates to WordPress themes and sites. Also assisted with the maintenance of related Apache servers.
    • Team Collaboration
      Participated in meetings with internal and external designs to aid in development planning and status updates.

    During this time, Paul worked as an independent contractor with small companies and small agencies. He primarily used PHP, HTML and CSS to develop small landing pages. He learned the basics of web development, hosting and project management.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop small sites and landing pages
      Using HTML, CSS and PHP, developed sites for various local business and individuals.
    • Client Acquisition / Communication
      Identify potential clients and establish contact. Once procured, develop project scope and timeline and maintain consistent communication with the end client.
    • Basic Hosting
      Using services like AWS, Rackspace and Go-Daddy, established the hosting space, DNS rules and Domain registration on behalf of the client.

Continuous Learning

I'm a self-taught developer with a lifelong interest in the web. Since the late 90s, I’ve continuously expanded my skills from HTML and CSS into PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, modern frameworks, CMS platforms, and full-stack application architecture.

That path taught me more than syntax. It taught me how to learn independently, adapt to new tools quickly, and take ownership of delivering complete solutions. Whether the right answer is custom code, a framework, or a platform like Strapi and Nuxt, I focus on building applications that are useful, attractive, and maintainable.

As AI becomes increasingly practical, I’m focused on incorporating it into my workflow. I see it as a powerful tool for boosting productivity and delivering better solutions.
